Hammock Task fails to update

I've built a hammock task that works perfectly for me but fails to update
itself when a colleague uses it. We both have MSP2003 SP3, and every setting
that I can check in the Options tabs is the same for both of us. I suspect
that it might be an issue with how her app or PC handles OLE (as mentioned in
Microsoft KB141733,) but I am unsure how best to troubleshoot.

Is there any other setting I might be missing to check on my colleague's PC
to ensure that hammock tasks work correctly?

Yes, per the KB article I press the F9 key twice and still no change. I also
have gone into the Options tab and unchecked the "ask to update automatic
links" box.

The "ask to update automatic links" option only fires up the question when
you open the file.
It is a good idea to have it turned on.
Links get a bit sticky and sometimes have to be nudged.
Go to Edit, Links and select all of your links and hit the Update button.

Issue is solved. Here's the ersolution:

When I was triaging my colleague's issue I asked her to checked the "ask to
update automatic links" option and then close/reopen MSP, which she did. Only
now did I take Trevor's response and think, "let's reboot just in case." It
now works like a champ.

Apparently, links DO get a bit sticky, and only a reboot will update the OLE
setting. However the forced manual update as Trevor suggested would work
well, too.

Brian,

You must NOT create links to any hammocks. Their coding in MS Project 2003
is not perfect (as already acknowledged by MS in several isntances).
Summation and dating problems occur when you move the hammocks around or
their components.

There is a trick I use to overcome this, especially when creating level of
effort (management, periodic field trips, maintenance, costing, etc.)
activities related to a hammock's or complex set of activities' time span:

1) Create activity A (NOT a milestone) named: Start/Beginning of ... or
First ...
2) Create activity B (NOT a milestone) named: Completion/Finish of ... or
Last ...
3) Now link all possible earliest starts to A (use SS) and all possible
latest finishes to B (use FF).
4) Once this is done you may know dynamically link your level of effort
activity to A and B using copy/paste especial text.
