I am using Microsoft Project 2007 and I got your calendar to work correctly.
To test your situation, I created a new blank project with Monday set as the
Start date. I then created a new custom calendar called Graveyard Shift. I
set the schedule for each day as follows:
Monday 6:00 PM 12:00 AM
Tuesday 12:00 AM 2:00 AM
6:00 PM 12:00 AM
Wednesday 12:00 AM 2:00 AM
6:00 PM 12:00 AM
Thursday 12:00 AM 2:00 AM
6:00 PM 12:00 AM
Friday 12:00 AM 2:00 AM
6:00 PM 12:00 AM
Saturday 12:00 AM 2:00 AM
I created two resources in my project, Henry Howard and Pancho Boie. I set
the Base Calendar (regular 8:00 AM - Noon and 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM schedule) to
Standard for Henry Howard. I set the Base Calendar to the Graveyard Shift
calendar for Pancho Boie.
I created a simple project with two tasks. Before I assigned resources,
however, I zoomed in to Days Over Two-Hour Increments. This allows me to
see whether the Graveyard Shift calendar actually works. I assigned Henry
Howard to the first task. It is scheduled correctly from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
on Monday. Then I assigned Pancho Boie to the second task. The software
correctly schedule his work from 6:00 PM - Midnight (12:00 AM) on Monday,
and from Midnight to 2:00 AM on Tuesday. You cannot see this if you are
zoomed to the default Weeks Over Days level of zoom.
I also applied the Days Over Two-Hour increments level of zoom in the Task
Usage view. Again, I can see clearly that the schedule is correct. Based
on the preceding description of what I have done, does this help you at all?
Let us know. Also, what version of Microsoft Project are you using? Let us
know that as well.

Post by superbuilderI need to set up an hourly schedule for night shift work from 6 PM to 2 AM
Monday thru Friday showing various tasks that take only a couple of hours per
task. When I try to assign a 24 hour chart with these working hours "project"
will only allow me to schedule working time up to midnight and not through to
2 AM. I need to show the eight hour shift from 6PM running through midnight
to 2AM with hourly tasks indicated in each day.
